Kraków’s Progressive Jewish community has got its first Torah scroll – a religious document containing the first five books of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) – donated by a community in Italy.
Rabbi Leigh Lerner, of Milan’s Beth Shalom Jewish Reform community, presented the scroll to Beit Kraków at the Galicia Jewish Museum. Magdalena Koralewska, of Beit Kraków, said the donation came about after a meeting in Amsterdam in March, at which it emerged that the Italian community had several scrolls, but the Kraków community had none.
