Małopolska police plan to deploy some 3,000 officers to tackle drink driving and ensure road safety over the All Saints’ holiday.
The operation will be launched on October 31, and will continue until November 4. The aim is to prevent road accidents as Poland mobilises to visit the graves of loved ones, a tradition on November 1.
A spokeswoman for Małopolska police said officers would focus mainly on areas around cemeteries, but also on main routes into and out of the region’s cities. She added that this time of year was a chance for families to get together, often involving alcohol-laden parties.
“We urge [drivers] not to get behind the wheel after drinking,” she said.
