Not born in Kraków? You’ll never be a local

A new blog has been published offering tongue in cheek advice for newcomers to the city.

Among the gems of wisdom on the Polish language site is a warning never to ask for directions to ‘Starówka’ if you’re looking for the Old Town – unless you wanted to be told to go to Warsaw. Another is that you won’t get anything for nothing – ask a Cracovian for a loan, and you’ll be much more likely to meet with success than if you ask to be ‘given’ something.

And the golden rule? Never, ever claim to be from Kraków, unless you were born here.

  1. Wrong translation or understanding. You are welcome to ask for “old town” but not for “starówka” – that’s difference.
