Three residents of a nursing home in Kraków have died in the past six weeks – with a fourth, who tried to jump from the window to his death, saved at the last minute.
The home, on ulica Łanowa, has not had a suicide since ten years ago. Two of the three pensioners who died in the past six weeks have been confirmed suicides – they jumped from a window. The other was an accident. The failed suicide attempt was said by authorities at the home to have been made by a man with alcohol problems, who had already tried to take his own life on previous occasions.
The home is not a secure facility, so movements of residents cannot be restricted and windows cannot be barred. However, window handles have now been removed for the protection of residents.
