Kraków will celebrate November 11 under the banner ‘Joyful Independence’ – with a free concert and sing-along in Rynek Główny in the evening.
The words to patriotic numbers such as Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino, Warszawskie dzieci, Białe róże, and more will be displayed on big screens at the concert, and song books will also be available. The concert will start at 5pm on November 11.
Earlier in the day there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, at the monument to Polish soldiers at Powiśle, at 9.30am. There will be a mass at Wawel cathedral at 10am, and a further wreath-laying ceremony at the Katyń cross outside Wawel, at 11.15am. There will be a march from Wawel, at 11.30am, ending at Plac Matejki at noon.
And Kraków’s mayor, Jacek Majchrowski, called on residents in the city to adorn their homes with flags to mark the day.
He said: “In connection with the Independence Day, November 11, I turn to the people of Kraków… with an appeal to decorate their buildings with national flags, to emphasise adherence to the tradition of independence.”
