Katowice’s new Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (Centrum Informacji Naukowej i Biblioteka Akademicka – CINiBA) has already attracted some 80,000 visitors since opening in September 2012.

The 80 million złoty facility, which received a 53m zł grant from the European Regional Development Fund, is one of the most modern and advanced of its kind in Poland. It was developed as a joint project between the University of Silesia and the University of Economics in Katowice.

The library houses around 800,000 titles, and offers access to books, magazines, databases, electronic texts, multimedia resources and more. There are some 300 work stations for study and research, and most borrowers can check their books in and out automatically via the library’s chip and loan system.
