Police siezed 100kg of tobacco during a raid of a house in Ostrowiec, and arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of avoiding excise tax.
Officers found 11 bags of tobacco, together with grinding, rolling and weighing equipment, when they raided the house on January 24. Police said the estimated cost to the Treasury was ‘several thousand złoty’, and that the man faces up to three years in jail and a fine if convicted.
In a separate incident, Świętokrzyska police arrested a 34-year-old man from Kielce after discovering 24kg of tobacco, 200 packets of cigarettes and eight litres of spirits, all without excise stamps at his home. The cost in unpaid tax on the goods was estimated at 22,000zł.
