A 30-year-old man from Georgia tasted just hours of freedom after absconding from a guarded centre for immigrants close to the Polish border with Belarus.
The man fled from the centre near Biała Podlaska, on January 24, at 9am. He was found in Biała Podlaska at 10pm the same day, and returned to the centre after received medical treatment for an injured leg.
Although the centre is not a prison, it is guarded round the clock to check the movements of suspected illegal immigrants entering Poland. An investigation into how the man was able to leave is now underway.
