They must be putting something in the water at Łódź zoo – for they’ve had yet another record-breaking new arrival.
The pygmy marmoset, which usually lives in South America, is an endangered species which grows to just 15cm. The baby born at the zoo in Łódź just a few days before Christmas will be sexed and named after the holiday.
The birth is the second in the space of just a few weeks at the zoo – which also welcomed a newborn cheetah in early December.
It was only the third time that a cheetah had been born in captivity – so the arrival of the baby big cat was a cause for celebration. In honour of their newest arrival, the zoo invited members of the public to pick a name for the cub – with the only stipulation being that it must begin with the letter ‘D’. Ewelina Molenda picked the winning name – Duma (Pride). She will now have her picture taken with the cheetah.
