Selected trams in Gdańsk have become mobile libraries in a bid to promote reading for pleasure and education in the city.
Public transport operators have teamed up with local libraries to offer on-board reading for every taste on 35 trams across Gdańsk. There are books for adults and children, which all slot into specially adapted seat backs on the trams.
Paweł Adamowicz, Mayor of Gdańsk, told the Polish Press Agency: “Every method of promoting reading is of value. We need a permanent fashion for reading books, as unfortunately, we don’t belong to those European nations which read a great deal.”
