Szczecin will join an international day of action to raise awareness of sexual violence against women, by holding a dance performance on Aleja Kwiatowa on Valentine’s Day.
The event has been co-ordinated by Eve Ensler, author of the Vagina Monologues, who started the V-Day movement to campaign against rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation, and sex slavery.
Eve wrote: “I’m tired of the fact that the fight against violence against women is still not an international priority, at a time when one woman in three is a victim of violence or rape.”
In Poland, some 800,000 women are victims of domestic violence each year. Almost half of all Polish women will experience violence during their lives.
V-Day events will also take place in Warsaw, Poznań, Gdańsk, Katowice and Gliwice.
