The lingua franca is not English. It’s compassion

Inside-Poland.com often writes at length about the issues of the day, but this week’s comment is different.

We present, instead of words, a photograph.

We ask that you look at this photograph, of an elderly man, way beyond retirement age, who believed it was his duty to do a job that would tax the abilities of a man one quarter of his age.

And we suggest that, though you might not agree with his belief, though you might live as a foreigner in Poland, and are struggling with the language, you remember that there is a true ‘lingua franca’.

The international language is not English.

It’s compassion.
