‘You don’t read? Then I’m not going to bed with you!”
That’s the message of an unorthodox calendar that has been launched to persuade Poles to read more books.
The calendar was created by Nie czytasz? Nie idę z Tobą do łóżka, a loose collective who count amongst their number photographers, designers and theatre set creators. Their statement about the campaign reads:
“The project was created by people who just like to read. The fact that some of us are doing well as photographers, graphic artists and stage designers has resulted in a visual campaign to promote reading, in the form of a series of photographs of famous and everday people, who have been caught in their own (and other) beds, with their favorite read in their hand.”
They add: “A book is passionate. [no reading] translates into a one-dimensional, grim and unvaried love life and intellectual life.”
They add that their project draws on the words of film director John Waters, who said: “We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them.”
The calendar runs from February 2012 until the end of January 2014. Find out how to get a copy at the campaign website.
