Sebastian Mikosz

Who is Sebastian Mikosz?
The new head of Poland’s national airline, LOT

Didn’t he already have that job?
Yes, he’s returning for a second stint at the helm, after holding the post from 2009-2010.

Must be a popular man
Not exactly. He left the first time round after angering unions with his cost cuts.

So he’s learned his lesson?
He might have done. But he’s still going to have to make a lot of cuts this time around. LOT has received a 400 million złoty bailout from the government, and may need up to 1 billion – and the support depends on heavy cost-cutting.

What happened to the previous boss?
Marcin Pieróg left as the government announced the rescue package. His departure was part of the deal, as the airline posted losses of 115 million złoty in 2012.

So Mikosz is in it for the long haul?
Don’t count on it. LOT has had 13 chief executives in the past ten years.
