Vets in Wrocław are backing a campaign to prevent unwanted domestic pets being abandoned – by encouraging cat and dog owners to have their animals sterilised.
The procedures, for both male and female animals, will be available at special prices throughout the city in March. Many European cities have such programmes, and in Athens, many vets from the UK take a ‘busman’s holiday’ each year, offering their services for free in return for a fortnight in the Greek sunshine.
Sterilisation of domestic pets is seen as a human way to prevent overpopulation of feral animal populations in urban areas. To find out more, visit the website of the For Animals foundation.
