Women’s Day is a celebration that may catch you on the hop if you’re from the UK or other nations where it is not widely observed.
But you can be sure that, here in Poland, you’re probably going to be required to present at least one red carnation on March 8. Probably best to stock up on boxes of chocolates and supplies of chivalry too.
The celebration, known as Dzień Kobiet in Polish, has a serious side too, and one which has brought it more and more attention over the past decade or so. For several years now a special theme has been attached to the day, and this year the topic will be the struggle to end violence against women. Expect marches and demonstrations in the country’s city centres on the day, as men and women together do their bit to raise awareness of the problem.
