It’s an unwritten and slightly frowned upon tradition that Polish school children will play truant on the first day of spring, March 21.
However, in Łódź this year, all that pent up youthful energy will be put to good use – for the city is encouraging young people to skip school and help paint over offensive graffiti.
There will also be a grand balloon launch, in the name of ‘tolerance’. There will be lessons in schools around Łódź on the same theme.
They’ve already been preparing – by carrying a Styrofoam letter ‘L’ to the mayor of Łódź Hanna Zdanowska. She added her backing to the message of tolerance by writing on the letter: “Łódź is a city for all who live here. We remember this.”
