Polish cuisine… if you thought you would never see those two words together, think again, for the nation has TWO dishes in the running for the best in the world.
What’s more, both were created in Kraków, and combine simplicity with flavour and value.
The kiełbasa served from the blue Nyska van outside Hala Targowa (pictured) have been shortlisted in the Chowzter awards for the best sausage in the world. In the vegetarian section, Milk Bar Tomasza’s pancakes are competing for top prize.
No other Polish city has made it to the final of the Chowzter awards, which will be presented at a prestigious ceremony in London on April 28 compered by comedian Alexander Armstrong. The Chowzter ethos is as straightforward as it gets – no chandeliers, and no chains. So you won’t find overpriced or mass-produced dishes among the winners. The prize instead honours those who produce stunning food for its own sake, at a price that won’t break the bank.
