Nobody is sure exactly how long the blue Nyska van selling kiełbasa outside Hala Targowa in Kraków has been operating – but it’s only the very unfortunate few who haven’t sampled its mouthwatering wares.
And the sausage served at the tiny outlet that draws hundreds of revellers from the city centre and kazimierz has now been named as one of the world’s seven tastiest fast feasts.
The announcement was made at the Chowzter awards ceremony in central London, placing the Kraków kiełbasa van right up there amongst the best diners that eschew chandeliers and chain marketing and instead rely on great food, good value and word of mouth.
Also competing for Kraków in the judges’ initial selection of prize candidates were Milk Bar Tomasza’s pancakes – though ultimately there could be only seven culinary wonders to take the top awards. The win for the kiełbasa van and double candidacy for the city set Kraków aside from all others in Poland, as no other made it to the shortlist.
The full list of winners from around the world is now available at the Chowzter website. What’s more, there’s an app which can be downloaded free – so you’ll always be able to find the finest fast food feasts in Kraków, or anywhere else in the world.
